This can be answered in terms of symptoms and their degree of seriousness.</p>
<p>Chest pain may be due to angina or, if severe, a heart attack, especially if accompanied by sweating and breathlessness. As people get older, the blood supply to all parts of the body including the heart may start to fail. This process is accelerated by smoking, poor diet and illnesses such as <strong>diabetes mellitus</strong>.</p>
<p><strong>Breathlessness</strong> may be due to a heart attack, but there are other causes such as pneumonia in people who are less mobile or bedridden. Other conditions such as heart failure may also cause breathlessness while uncontrolled <strong><a href="http://healthical.com/diabetes-mellitus-medical-treatments-and-therapy/">diabetes mellitus</a></strong> may give &#8220;air hunger&#8221;. Lung disease may cause breathlessness. Emphysema is a gradual deterioration of lung tissue through a <strong>chronic cough</strong>, especially due to smoking over many years. Smoking may also induce lung cancer, which may cause breathlessness, coughing up blood and eventually death.<br />

<p>Weakness in arms and legs, especially if sudden, may be a symptom of poor blood supply to the brain. Merely telling yourself to relax rarely works, especially if you are feeling overwrought. Relaxation is easy to learn but it does require practice; it may take several sessions to get it right and it helps if you understand how the technique works. It&#8217;s all about fooling the system and giving out positive signals that your body is at ease. Relaxed muscles and slow, quiet breathing send calming messages to the brain that turns off the false reaction to danger. When there are no threats your body rests and restores itself ready for the next burst of energy.</p>
<p><strong>Whole Body Relaxation</strong><br />
This is the most common form of relaxation and produces pleas­ant results quickly. The technique works if you create the right conditions and allow sufficient time &#8211; about 20 minutes for a whole-body session. Eventually, you can cut down on the time and recreate the stress-free feeling anywhere as you improve your skill. If you would like to learn to relax with a teacher ask at your GP surgery; many stress counselors run individual or group classes.<br />

<strong>Step-by-step technique for use at home</strong></p>

<li>Find a warm, quiet place and lie on a rug or sit in a well-sup­ported chair. Use a pillow for support if it helps to make you more comfortable. Reduce outside noises if possible.</li>
<li>Wear loose clothing and remove glasses and shoes. Lie on your back with head supported, arms and legs straight and slightly apart.</li>
<li>Breathe in and out deeply for three breaths and imagine you are losing tension; then breathe normally.</li>
<li>You can close your eyes at this stage or wait until they shut nat­urally. (You are going to work on each major muscle group starting with the feet. As you tighten and relax the muscles, learn to recognize the difference between tension and relax­ation. Hold each constriction for a few seconds and repeat each action with a short break between.)</li>
<li>Pull your feet towards your body &#8211; hold the tension &#8211; release, and feel the reduction in tension.</li>
<li>Point your toes hard away from your body and feel the tension in your calf muscles &#8211; hold &#8211; and relax.</li>
<li>Next work on your thighs by drawing your legs tightly towards you or raising them into the air &#8211; hold &#8211; drop back to a relaxed position with thighs rolled outwards.</li>
<li>Tense your buttocks by squeezing them hard together &#8211; hold -and relax.</li>
<li>Tense your abdomen in the opposite way by pushing it out­wards &#8211; hold &#8211; and then let it flop.</li>
<li>Check your legs again and if you have slipped back into a tense position, repeat from step 5. A couple of deep breaths will help at this point. Your lower body should feel heavy, warm and relaxed.</li>
<li>Now concentrate on your back. Arch your spine away from the floor or chair &#8211; hold &#8211; and let go. (Warning: Leave this one out if you have any back problems).</li>
<li>Now move your shoulders backwards to expand your chest -hold &#8211; and release.</li>
<li>Tense your shoulders next by raising your arms and pulling on your shoulders &#8211; hold. As you drop your arms, wriggle your shoulders up to your ears and relax with your shoulder blades touching the floor or chair.</li>
<li>Now work on your hands and lower arms by making a tight fist &#8211; hold &#8211; and relax, letting your fingers droop. As you clench your fists for the second time, raise your arms slightly off the ground and notice the tension in your forearms &#8211; hold &#8211; and release.</li>
<li>Move to the upper arms by bringing your hands across your body, close to your chest &#8211; hold &#8211; relax them to a position on the floor with palms facing upwards.</li>
<li>Relax your neck and throat by gently moving your head from side to side (not a circular movement) and then pulling your chin down to your chest &#8211; hold &#8211; and release.</li>
<li>Next clench your jaw by clamping your teeth together &#8211; hold -and let go so that your mouth is slightly open. That tension probably felt familiar as clenching teeth is a common habit.</li>
<li>Now work on your facial muscles. Press your hps together -hold &#8211; and release. Push your tongue hard to the roof of your mouth &#8211; hold &#8211; and let it drop to the floor of your mouth.</li>
<li>Move your eyes inside your closed lids to the four quarters of a circle and then let your eyelids relax.</li>
<li>Finally, relax your forehead and scalp. Frown hard and pull your forehead down &#8211; hold &#8211; and let go so that your face feels floppy.</li>
</ul>
<p>Your whole body should now feel comfortable and free from ten­sion. Breathe gently and let your mind wander at will. If stressful thoughts irritate you in this relaxed state, think about somewhere pleasant and, as you breathe, repeat in your mind &#8216;peace in and pressure out&#8217;. Don&#8217;t worry if you drop off to sleep at this point; eventually you will learn to relax your body without going to sleep, but use this method at night if insomnia is a problem.</p>
<p>Lie quietly with your eyes closed for a few minutes enjoying the warm feeling; then slowly bring yourself back to the present. Count backwards from five to one, clench your fists tightly, relax and rub your hands together. If you are lying on the floor, roll onto your side; open your eyes with your hands shielding them from the light. Stand up slowly and try to hold on to the relaxed mood when you return to action.</p>
<p><strong>Getting the best from relaxation</strong><br />
Sharing the session with another person is pleasant. You can take turns to read the instructions or make yourselves a tape recording. Listen to music if it helps to calm your mind and ring the changes by starting at the top and working towards your feet. As you become better at &#8216;switching off, shorten the session and create a relaxed mood by imagining your body is warm and heavy without going through all of the muscle-tightening steps. Use this short­ened version as a &#8216;mini restorative&#8217;, particularly when you are away from home in stressful situations.</p>

<p>Acknowledge your feelings! It is crucial to listen to your feelings and believe in them. First you must learn to identify what you feel. <p>1. You need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day they said.</p>
<p>- Not such a good advice as far as nutrition is concerned. If you live in a very hot climate you have to make sure you are getting enough water to compensate for what you lost through perspiration. But in normal circumstances – drink when you feel thirsty.</p>
<p>- Any kind of liquid is good to keep the water levels in your body in check. What so much water does is dilutes your electrolytes and makes you feel full. You are advised to drink that amount if you want to lose weight.<span id="more-42"></span></p>
<p>2. Do not eat after 7 PM</p>
<p>– The French laugh at it and for a good reason. People live different lives on different schedules. Some work at night. There is no formula that fits all. It&#8217;s really about what you eat not when you eat it.</p>
<p>3. Eat as much chocolates as you want, it&#8217;s good for you.</p>
<p>- Wrong. The bitter chocolate that contains at least 70% of cocoa has health benefits. The regular milk or filled chocolate is good for your sweet tooth only. It has no health benefits.</p>
<p>4. Another idea that has been popular is that carbohydrates are bad for you and will make you fat.<br />

<p>- Some carbs (as they are called) are indeed bad for you. Sugars, white rice, white flower, pasta are all heavy with simple carbs that get turned to sugar very quickly.</p>
<p>- When there’s excess, this carbs turned sugar will be stored as fat, probably around your middle section.</p>
<p>- There are a lot of healthy complex carbs you should eat and not avoid. <a href="http://healthic.net/nutrition/understanding-your-body-needs-in-maintaining-optimal-health/">Your body needs it</a>. Eat beans, vegetables, fruit, brown rice and whole grain flower and it will take the body a lot of effort (calories) to break it down and won’t raise your insulin levels.</p>
<p>5. Another myth is that you don&#8217;t need dairy products after you&#8217;ve grown up.</p>

Stay away from dairy products that are full of saturated fats (whole milk, sour cream, whipping cream etc.) and keep the ones that are low fat or fat free.</p>
<p>- Recent research showed that Americans, especially children, have very low levels of vitamin D probably because of sun blocks or because they hardly play outdoors. Doctors believe high levels of vitamin D help combat different kinds of cancers. So do make sure you are getting enough <a href="http://nutridb.com/preventive-measures/have-a-strong-and-resilient-bones-avoiding-osteoporosis/">calcium to avoid osteoporosis</a>.</p>
<p>6. Don&#8217;t eat more than one or two eggs a week is another idea that is rebutted.</p>

Atkins came up with a revolutionary diet plan he named after himself.<br />
The basis of this plan was the idea that we are not getting fat from the fat in our food. How else, he said, would we explain the obesity in the United Stated, where there are so many low fat foods?</p>
<p>The culprits, he uncovered, are the carbohydrates. Those building blocks turn into glucose and if we do not use all of that energy on physical activity, it turns into fat and accumulates in our bodies.</p>
<p>Therefore his diet is based on a few or no carbohydrates at all. You can eat as much proteins (meat and animal products) as you like and you can eat as much fat as you like, as long as you avoid carbohydrates you will lose weight.<br />

<p>The diet was based on proteins; bacon is OK, huge steaks are OK, creams, cheeses are OK and you can eat as much of it as you want. Eliminate the flower, rice, sugars and other carbohydrates from your food and you will lose weight.</p>
<p>Low and behold it worked! People were <a href="http://healthic.net/diet/the-atkins-diet/">losing weight in huge amounts</a> while gorging on their favorite foods and Dr. Atkins became the talk of the town.</p>
<p><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-201" title="atkins" src="http://healthic.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/atkins-300x250.jpg" alt="atkins" width="260" height="220" />The diet calls for a ridiculously small amount of carbohydrate for the first two weeks, about 20 grams a day (one slice of bread has about 18gr.) and no fruit at all because they are high in carbohydrates and sugars.</p>
<p>After the initial two weeks and after you have lost 4-8 pounds a week, you can slowly and carefully increase the amount of carbohydrates until you stop losing weight. That is your plateau, your base line and now you know what your limit is and reduce the intake in order to lose weight. You can also check the amount of ketosis in your urine which is an indication that your body is burning the fat it has been storing.</p>
<p>The problem with this <a href="http://healthic.net/category/diet/">diet</a> is two pronged ; you deny yourself some foods and you start craving them after a while. There&#8217;s a risk you will go off the diet and start eating carbohydrates. Together with the fat you&#8217;ve been eating it is a recipe for an immediate weigh gain.<br />
The more serious problem is the cholesterol which you have been consuming in big quantities.</p>
<p>It has been known for years that cholesterol is a major factor in heart attacks and cardiovascular system problems and is altogether dangerous to your health. Indeed when Dr. Atkins stepped out of his office in New York, in April 2003, slipped on the ice and fell; he died 9 days later at the age of 72. His cause of death was characterized as “blunt impact injury of the head” but subsequent reports show he had congestive heart failure and his weight at the time of death would have made him obese.</p>
<p>Since his death, although his wife tried to continue with his institute and diet empire, the <a href="http://healthic.net/diet/the-atkins-diet/">popularity of this diet</a> has declines dramatically, and it is the least recommended diet by doctors and health professionals.</p>

<p>If you aren&#8217;t feeling good about what you&#8217;ve accomplished, remind yourself of all that you&#8217;ve learned and how much time you&#8217;ve spent working on your health. Practice a little positive self-talk to build your confidence and get back on track.</p>
<p>Finally, if you find that for some reason you get entirely thrown off track, even if it means starting over. There are many things in life that can get in the way of one’s routine: holidays, vacations, being extra busy, sickness, and pregnancy.</p>
<p>If possible, try to plan ahead. Roadblocks are very common, all of us face obstacles. You can plan ways to get past them.</p>
<p>When thinking about your personal roadblocks to quitting smoking, remember that there are different kinds. Some are mental and have to do with how you view your smoking habit. Others have to do with your social life and how much support you&#8217;ll have when you quit smoking.  Still others are related to what you think might happen if you quit, such as gaining weight or being irritable<span id="more-247"></span>Here are examples of some common roadblocks people face when trying to quit.</p>
<p>-Weight gain</p>

Why, they ask, in the country such as the United States which is so consumed with low fat and diet foods, people die of heart attacks in greater numbers than in France for example, which enjoys butters, croissants and red meat.</p>
<p>The reason, scientist think, lies in the <a href="http://healthic.net/nutrition/improving-bodys-immune-system-with-proper-nutrition/">balanced nutrition</a> the French consume compared with the American diet.</p>
<p>Americans eat meat in the morning, in the form of bacon, ham or sausages with eggs, another animal protein. They eat meat at lunch, when they are pressed for time and grab a hamburger (again meat and white flower bun) and they eat meat at dinner as well. All the while drinking coke and other sugar laden drinks.<span id="more-39"></span></p>

On top that the Americans are more stressed and work harder and longer than any other nation except Japan.</p>
<p>Because of that, proper nutrition is of the utmost importance. Proper nutrition help in reducing the risk of illness, it improves the body&#8217;s immune system, it help us maintain optimal weight (optimal for our bodies that it, not for the pages of fashion magazines). It&#8217;s hard to get fit or exercise when you do not eat right and your body works twice as hard to muster the energy to break down harmful additives and not much is left as fuel for the muscles.</p>
<p>When we are eating a <a href="http://healthic.net/nutrition/improving-bodys-immune-system-with-proper-nutrition/">balanced and nutritional meals</a> our skin looks better, nails grow stronger and hair becomes shinier. When we look good, we feel good, we are happier, and the brain is clearer. Our memory benefits, our vision gets better and over all we improve the quality of our lives.</p>

It worked your heart, your heart muscle, and provides oxygen to the other muscles to enable them to work longer. When you engage in aerobics exercise you will see that you can do more physical activity without being out of breath.</p>
<p>There are many forms of aerobic exercise; an aerobics class at the gym, spinning (on a stationary bike), fast walking (on a treadmill or outdoors), steps, cross country skiing, swimming, jogging or hiking.<br />

<p>Experts recommend taking at least 10,000 steps a day to maintain a level of activity that is <a href="http://healthic.net/exercise/aerobics-exercise-help-to-boost-your-heart-muscle/">beneficial to your body</a>. A small device called a pedometer can be used to help with the count. It is relatively cheap and can be purchased in sporting goods stores for about $10-15. No need to walk and count anymore.</p>

<p>As with all other forms of exercise you should start with stretching and allow time for a cool down by continuing the same activity in a progressively slower pace.</p>
<p>You can do your aerobic exercises by parking your car further away and walking to your work, you can take the stairs instead of the elevator, or doing your errands by walking instead of driving.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t have to do it all at once. Experts say you can break it down to a few shorter sessions, 10-15 minutes at a time, as long as you get your full 30-90 minutes a day. Group sports such as soccer, football, basketball and tennis are also <a href="http://healthic.net/exercise/aerobics-exercise-help-to-boost-your-heart-muscle/">considered a cardiovascular activity</a>.</p>
<p>This should become a way of life, going back to the basics of a less modernize world.</p>
